We are afraid of truth, afraid of fortune, afraid of death, and afraid of each other. Our age yields no great and perfect persons. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

I so want to know what you have left to say.
I want you to know I loved.
More than anything I ever did, I learned to love and love hard.
I was born loving.
I hurt. I was scared, worried, distrustful. I closed off.
I didn’t know how to love, I said.
Then I fought to love again.
I lost, I thought I lost, I gave up, I walked away. I threw it away.
Then I loved again.
I didn't want to love. I had every reason to not love. Everyone said to not love. It’s ok. We would understand.
I loved anyway.
For no reason!
And then, I realized that through all of it,
through all of learning to love you…
I was learning to love me, hard.
And then, I started living.
